WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Apple plans to release a foldable iPhone next month, offering, for the price of $1,999, a larger screen and new multitasking features.
The iPhone has a 7.6-inch display when opened and closes to a 5.4-inch outer display. According to Apple, it can comfortably be used in one hand and easily fits in a pocket.
Preorders begin Friday, Oct. 16, and availability begins on Friday, Oct. 23, in more than 70 countries and regions, including the United States.
The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for 256GB of storage, which may be a factor for many prospective customers.
For college students, the larger screen could make everyday tasks such as studying or watching videos more convenient.
Kyle O’Keefe, a college student interviewed about the phone, says the larger screen is appealing but would only consider buying one if the price is right.
Apple is also introducing a feature called Split View, allowing users to open two apps side by side on an iPhone, a first for Apple.
The phone has a dual battery system, which Apple claims provides 24 hours of typical use with both displays active. Wireless and fast wired charging are supported.
The phone has a 48MP main camera and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera. When the phone is closed, the user can preview photos on the outer display.
The phone supports 4K at 120 fps recording on the main camera and allows users to record cinematic videos up to 60 fps.
The phone is equipped with iOS 27, meant to give a familiar experience while introducing new ways to interact with the iPhone.
The phone is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro, alongside an advanced thermal management system designed to keep the system cool.
Storage options for the phone range from 256GB to 2TB. The phone is also available in star white and night sky.
